Romain de TIRTOF (1892-1990) dit ERTE - Lot 18
Romain de TIRTOF (1892-1990) dit ERTE Sophisticated Lady Épreuve en bronze patiné, doré et argenté. Signée sur la base. Circa 1980 - Edition RK PARKER - AP. Certificat de M. Serge LEEMAN. Hauteur: 39 cm Bibliographie: ERTE sculpture, Text and commentaries by ERTE, New-York, 1986, p110. “This figure is another example of one of my favorite fashion designs interpreted in bronze. It is a costume that originated in 1931. “Sophisticated” is probably the best word to describe the fashions of that period. In my sculpture I tried to incorporate the classical elegance and maturity of line typical of the haute couture of the 1930s. The costume is neoclassical, of Greek inspiration. On the sleeve is an emblem that is very Art Deco, but inspired by the stylized geometric motifs of the pre-Columbian cultures. The art of the Incas and Aztecs appeared in all forms of decorative art in France after the dramatic archaeological discoveries in South end Central America in the 1920s.”
