JULES BRATEAU (1844-1923) Les Fleuves de France Covered pewter ecuelle with openwork lugs, standing on three feet with foliate scrolls. On the lid, the rivers Seine, Rhine, Loire, Garonne and Rhône are depicted in frames. On the ears, a bearded man's head and a woman's head are surmounted by a shell and foliage resting on dolphins. The lid features a nude woman embracing a winged centaur. Model created in 1890. Length: 30.5 cm - Height: 14 cm Cartouche hallmark, gibet counterpunch The Neptune and Louis XV plates can be used as a display stand for the écuelle. This is the only example known to date that is entirely gilded on the inside. Excellent condition. Ref. Boucaud, J-C, Jules Brateau, p.85.
