Attributed to François LE MOYNE (1688-1737) Head of a bearded man turned three-quarters to the left Black stone, shading and white chalk highlights on gray paper 32 x 23.5 cm Missing lower left. To be compared with the apostles' heads depicted in particular in the cycle of nine paintings made for the Cordeliers in Amiens around 1717-1720, five of which are now in Sens Cathedral, four of which are lost (see Jean-Luc Bordeaux, François Le Moyne and his generation, Paris, ed. Arthena, 1984, pp 71-75, figs. 5 to 9).
