Angelica dite Olga de KOSTROWITZKY (1858-1919) mother of Gui - Lot 12
Angelica dite Olga de KOSTROWITZKY (1858-1919) mother of Guillaume Apollinaire. Autograph letter signed "Your mother", Chatou September 15, 1915, to Guillaume APOLLINAIRE; 2 pages small in-4 (8.5 x 117.5 cm; split at fold)... Rare letter to her son who is at the front. She thanks W. for taking care of the payment of her contributions. She has received a letter from Albert (her other son): "He says it's very bad again in Mexico. We've been queuing in front of the bakeries since 6 p.m. to wait for them to open at 4 a.m. It's annoying that the bakeries are closed. It's annoying that the Germans are even torpedoing boats in Bordeaux at the entrance to the Gironde. Letters from Albert come through there more often than through St Nazaire. American ships have been arriving via Bordeaux since shortly after the war, and not via Le Havre as before. [ ] I don't know if Vilna has been taken? You know that Vilna is where we lived when I was little, we had a property outside town I think, called Antikoli. We also lived in Oshmianko near Vilna, a small village. The family is from Minsk, not Vilna, i.e. the Minsk government. It's a pity that W. didn't go on with the horse, but he couldn't, he was ill and had palpitations. You yourself had said that he wouldn't be strong enough as a driver, so we put him to follow the Brigadiers' platoon. It's very annoying because he would have gained something and would have arrived just as quickly. He thinks he'll be discharged, but we keep him at the depot. We're not sending any more men back now [ ] You're not a quartermaster anymore? [ ] You do 4 days at the front and 4 in the billets, don't you? Is your apartment still occupied?
