Max JACOB (1876-1944). Autograph letter (minute), [Céret Jun - Lot 10
Max JACOB (1876-1944). Autograph letter (minute), [Céret June 15, 1913]; 1 page in-8 (17.5 x 11 cm). Clarification concerning Alcools, after George Duhamel's review in the Mercure de France of June 15, 1913. "Copy of the letter I sent this morning to the Mercure. [ ] M. Georges Duhamel, in his review of M. Guillaume Apollin's book of verse, has committed an error which the importance of the Mercure de France's judgments and the importance of the poet it affects make particularly regrettable. According to M. Duhamel, M. G. A. would follow in poetry a path already traced by me. M. G. A. has not stopped publishing verts since 1898; in 1904 I was still writing neither verse nor prose, and my first collection dates from 1911." He asked for this correction to be inserted. [The letter was published in Mercure de France on July 1, 1913; Duhamel replied in the July 16 issue]. Apollinaire, Correspondance générale, t. I, p. 539.
