Jacques-François-Joseph SWEBACH (known as SWEBACH DESFONTAINES, 1769-1823) Four preparatory drawings for an album of Russian costumes Black pencil, brown wash. 17 x 13 cm Mounted together in an antique frame: 45.5 x 37 cm à vue 1820 A specialist in battle scenes, Jacques-François- Joseph Swebach brilliantly illustrated the Napoleonic era. Called to Russia by Tsar Alexander I, he worked between 1815 and 1817 for the Imperial Manufactory in St. Petersburg, bringing back a wealth of drawings that he reproduces in this album.
