FIAT 500 ABARTH Launched in 1957, the second-generation Fiat - Lot 213
FIAT 500 ABARTH Launched in 1957, the second-generation Fiat 500 has become an icon in automotive history. A symbol of Italy and Dolce Vita, it, like the Vespa, represented the social and economic revival in Italy. Derived from the 600 model launched two years earlier, the "Nuova 500", to distinguish it from the model it replaced, was a popular success, with almost 4 million units produced between 1957 and 1975. Its impact on the automotive industry was significant, and it was produced during this career in a variety of body styles and by different factories, thanks to international licenses. Equipped with a 479 cm3 twin-cylinder delivering 13 bhp, its 2.97 m, 470 kg body enabled it to thread its way through town and open the door to many families. With its rear-mounted engine, the trunk of this city car is in the front. As early as 1957, Abarth offered a conversion kit. The famous Italian tuner transformed the little city car, increasing its power in particular. After numerous victories and records, the Turin-based brand agreed to deliver cars directly to Abarth. The 595 and 595 SS, then the 695 from 1964 onwards, saw their power ratings rise from 19hp to 38hp, enabling it to reach a top speed of 135 km/h. We are offering for sale an attractive restoration project. Dark gray in color, it is equipped with its air-cooled twin-cylinder engine. The interior, with its carpeted seats, will be restored, as will the bodywork. The mechanics are non-rotating and require a complete overhaul. (Sold non-running and non-rotating, further information and photos on request). Engine: air-cooled 497 cm3 twin-cylinder Transmission: 3-speed manual Power: approx. 19 hp Dimensions: 2.97 x 1.32 x 1.32 m
