Africa. Important Fang Ngil mask from Gabon. Note the headdr - Lot 15
Africa. Important Fang Ngil mask from Gabon. Note the headdress decorated with a multitude of tapestry nails. The Fangs form a group of 500,000 individuals in Gabon and 600,000 individuals in Equatorial Guinea. There are also Fang minorities in Cameroon and Congo-Brazaville. Wood, Kaolin, copper nails. The people known as Fang were conquering warriors and invaded by successive leaps, from village to village, the whole vast region between Cameroon and Gabon between the 18th and early 20th centuries. The Fangs figures perpetuate the social identity, subsist in a hostile natural environment and dialogue with the dead. H. 68cm. (Africa, African art, Civilization and ethnic groups).
