54 CHAR René. Reunion of 35 autograph letters signed to the - Lot 54
54 CHAR René. Reunion of 35 autograph letters signed to the painter Pierre Charbonnier of which 27 with envelope, 6 autograph postcards, two telegrams and one autograph letter from Anne Reinbold Char's companion to the same. 1944-1978; about fifty pages. Beautiful and very friendly correspondence in which Char pours out his heart without reserve. He speaks of several of his books to which Charbonnier gave etchings: Quatre fascinants (1951), Sans grand' peine (1973), but also Soleil des eaux, Feuillets d'Hypnos, the exhibition of Charbonnier's paintings in New York. There is talk of his health, which he often returns to, the film planned by the Zervos, the illness and death of his mother (with a death notice).Francis Ponge, the Zervos - especially Yvonne -, Albert Camus and La Peste, the bookseller-publisher Henri Matarasso, the sculptor Boyan, Charbonnier's painting and his exhibition, about which he sends a list of names and addresses to which to send invitations, are often mentioned: Albert Camus, Jean Villeri..., his own exhibition at Maeght in St Paul de Vence, later presented at the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris. Long and beautiful letter (and telegram) to Regine after the death of her husband Pierre Charbonnier, and on the birth of a granddaughter. The letter of October 29, 1973 contains "The still fresh text" of the preface to a Charbonnier exhibition catalogue, in Saint-Étienne est à Montpellier (?) 1973, one page in-4 typewritten signed and dated October 28, 1973. A little before Char thanks a painting offered by Charbonnier which will "do him good". There is an autograph poem signed in five lines: "The earth that receives the seed is sad...", a letter of thanks for a painting by Anne Reinbold, Char's companion (who writes in the letter of November 9, 1976: "You have in her the most fervent admirer of your painting").The letter of September 4, 1951 was written by Jacques Dupin under the dictation of Char, who was suffering from rheumatism and said: "I am becoming spoiled since I need the youthful hand of Dupin...".
