Africa. Kwele mask (Gabon). The Kwele are a people of Central Africa, settled in the northwest of the Republic of Congo, on the border with Gabon, between the Dja and Ivindo rivers. The Kwele practiced subsistence agriculture and trade, exchanging ivory and gum arabic for salt and manufactured goods. Nowadays most of them are small farmers. H. approx. 30cm.
