100 Skuratov, Konstantin Nikolaevich, (1874-1948) Copy num. - Lot 100
100 Skuratov, Konstantin Nikolaevich, (1874-1948) Copy num. 1 with original watercolour. History of the Horse Guard Regiment, in peace and war. (Its history through documents).1855-1881. Tom II. Paris, imprint VAL, 1940, in-4, white sheet, justification sheet showing "No. 1", original watercolour by Osorgine Mikhail Sergeyevich, (1919-2004), dated 1940, on thicker paper, 11 pp., off-text sheet with hand-enhanced photogr. of Alexander II, 431 pp., 72 and 3 pp., white sheet. Multiple ill. glued on 39 off-text pages as well as maps. Paperback (by 3 metal pieces) in publisher's printed folder. Published volume has only 100 copies, this one number 1, for the grand duke Vladimir Kirillovitch, often recognized as the main heir to the throne of Russia. Very rare and important historical study, published in Paris in the middle of the World War. Richly illustrated reproductions of old engravings (indicating their provenance) and off-text maps, as well as the list of the recipients of the 100 copies of the work - almost all officers of the late Tsarist army. According to our research, all the copies (of this volume as well as of the others) have a different quantity of illustrations; it seems that the 39 leaves of off-text illustrations by our ex. is a large quantity; one copy sold last year had only 24. In excellent condition, with the original watercolour which served as a model for the titles of the other copies. Provenance: The Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovitch of Russia, (1917-1992). Member of the house of Holstein - Gottorp - Romanov. Pretender to the throne of Russia.
